Phosphorous contain in low protein dog food is very little. Dogs can not consume too much phosphorous if they have kidney problems. If dogs with kidney problems have too much phosphorous they may get hyperphosphatemia that is an electrolyte imbalance. And if the dog untreated that will cause complete renal failure. Low protein dog food will limits the production of uremic toxins. When the kidneys are function normally, they created the byproducts that are uremic toxins.
