Is It Important to Know Senior Dog Food?
Your dog’s dietary needs to be change as they growing older. That is why to do a search on senior dog food is always a good idea. As they come to near middle age a dog requirements also changes, like us. You will realize, if you are 50 plus, that your dietary requirements are different from when you are teens. As their activity level drops, dog’s metabolism are also begin to slow on their later years. Dog’s food should begin to change as their health begins to deteriorate, to reflects their dietary needs. Commonly senior dogs food need less phosphorous, protein, and sodium, and more vitamins. But they will still need enough amounts of those nutrients. To reflect their less active lifestyle, senior dog food should have less calories.
To avoid the higher risk of developing constipation, older dog need a diet in high fiber as their senior dog food. To reduces the risk of gum disease and to control tartar build up on his teeth, feeding them with dry dog food will do a great help.
As dog also can be prone to arthritis, older dogs will need additonal supplements, as their nutritional needs change with age. It is good to consult to your vet due to your senior dog food, if you think your dog doesn’t have enough minerals and vitamins from their food. You can see if your dog doesn’t have enough minerals and vitamins when they have oral disease.
Common problem for senior dogs are obesity. Overweight on older dogs are risk them to develop arthritis and other muscle and joint problems because of their excess wight. To prevent it all together is they best way to deal with obesity, but then if your dogs is already has it, assist them to loose some extra weight is the best thing you can do. Lower caloric content in senior dog food will help to prevent weight gain.
