Something You Have To Know About Guard Dog Training

A guard dog is trained to protect us and our house from unwanted and unforeseen people or animal. A guard dog will attack and restrain an intruder whenever the intruder gets into the guard dog territory, while a watch dog will only give warning barks when an intruder come within their range. And a guard dog training will train a dog to do either warning and restrain or even attack the unwanted visitors.

Guard dog training is meant to train the dogs to protect the owner, and under the owner’s command to attack intruder’s threat. And once the guard dogs have through this training, they can’t be left alone with visitors, because they might attack the visitors if they feel a sense of threatening motion or action.

You have to be wise to choose guard dog training, popular guard dog breeds like German Shepherd and Doberman Pinschers are very good candidates for guard dog duty because of their innate instinct to guard. Guard dogs have to be intelligent, brave, and commited to work. Their instict must be carefully recognized, to make sure that they can still be controlled if necessary, because nobody wants to be near a guard dog that’s out of control.

To teach the dog when to bark is the first thing to do in guard dog training. If something unusual happen, and the dog bark at proper time, you can call your dog to your side and give them a treat, a chew toy for example. You have to make your dog understood that if something unusual happens, and they sense it, they are allow to bark and come to one of your family to warn you.

Guard dog training usualy work well with older dogs, but it will be better if the dog learn these skills while they are young. Because you wouldn’t want your guard dog training might be interfere with other dog training. For example, in other training, you train your dog not to jump on other people, while on the guard dog training, to jump to an intruder is important.

You can do your own guard dog training, or simply hire a professional trainer. You can find a professional dog trainer by asking at your local vet clinic or pet shops. But if you decide to train your dog your self, you need to know that guard dog training is not easy like training your dog simple obedience commands. So maybe you better like to put your dog in a dog training school where the professional trainer handle the training. Your dog will be properly evaluated before they can accepted in the program, based on the temperament of the dog, whether they have the potential to be guard dogs or not.

    Well, this is really a very informative post. You’ve pretty much covered everything you can talk about when introducing the topic.

    People should know that training a guard dog is a job for professionals. The best thing any owner can do is teach the basic obedience commands and good manners during its first year of life, but you have to keep in mind that this is all done in order to make it easier for the dog to be accepted in a guard dog training school.

    If you do not plan to send it to an obedience school, then you’ll be making it easier for the future trainer.

    Remember, guard dog training is something only experts can do correctly without risk of making it end up with a dangerous animal.
